THE COLLEGE OF NEW
ROCHELLE
TO RECEIVE $4.2 MILLION FROM NEW YORK STATE
NEW ROCHELLE, NY, May 16, 2008– The College of New
Rochelle (CNR) will receive $4.2 million dollars from New York State -
part of the $52 million New York State Higher Education Capital
Matching Grants Program (HECap)funding approved by the HE Cap Board
last week. The HECap program requires a three to one (non-State
to State) match by institutions. Grants may be used for the design,
construction, acquisition or renovation of facilities. CNR will use the
grant monies toward construction costs for its new Wellness Center.
New York State Senator Suzi Oppenheimer and Assemblyman George Latimer,
both of whom have supported Wellness Center initiatives through their
offices, were instrumental in securing the HECap funding for the
College. "When the state legislature approved HECap funding, we
envisioned the construction of critical academic facilities such as The
College of New Rochelle's Wellness Center,” said Senator Oppenheimer.
“The Center will enable The College to further its commitment to
providing wellness education to its students and the greater
community."
Assemblyman George Latimer adds, "When you add together state funding
being provided through HECap and funds being raised by colleges all
across the state, hundreds of millions of dollars are being invested in
academic facilities. Through these HECap projects, colleges like CNR
are not only expanding educational opportunities but creating skilled
construction jobs and providing valuable services to their local
communities."
Other Westchester County institutions to received funding through the
program include Iona College, Manhattanville and Pace University. The
list of approved projects is available at
http://www.dasny.org/dasny/hecap/index.php. Institutions that have not
yet applied for HECap allocation have until March 31, 2009 to apply.
