CNR Student Luisa Garcia Speaks at Launch of New Westchester Internship Collective

Luisa Garcia, currently a senior at The College of New Rochelle, spoke about her personal internship experiences at a press conference last week announcing the launch of the Westchester Putnam Internship Connex program. The event was held at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. headquarters, in Tarrytown, NY.

"My internships have been life-changing opportunities. They are crucial for students. This is the opportunity to make the mistakes you need to make in the workplace and to learn from those mistakes. This is the place you can make the contacts you need and meet mentors that can help you in the future," Garcia said. "Internships are really essential for any student to have."

A double major in communication arts and political science at The College of New Rochelle, Luisa has already has significant experience. She is currently interning at CNN in New York, and will be going to the Olympics in February next year with NBC. Previously, she interned at the NBC Bureau of The Today Show during her 2012 semester abroad in London. At one of several past internships at ABC, she helped produce a 20/20 segment with Diane Sawyer about the dangers of childbirth in Third World countries, and she worked with medical expert, Max Gomez, doing feature segments during an internship with CBS.

The Westchester Putnam Internship Connex is a dynamic, one-stop portal designed to connect locally enrolled college and university students with local internship opportunities at area employers in Westchester and Putnam Counties. The portal already hosts nearly 100 employers and thirteen area academic institutions including The College of New Rochelle.

"We look forward to the increased accessibility to area internships which this amazing tool provides. The Office of Career Development encourages students to take advantage of this tool to reach out and connect with real life experiences as an extension of their academic experience,"commented Diane Spizzirro, College of New Rochelle Director of Career Development.
