Miss New York 2011 Bringing Anti-Bullying Efforts to CNR

An antibullying event will bring Miss New York 2011 Kaitlin Monte to The College of New Rochelle on Tuesday, October 22, 2013.

The event, "Creating a Culture of Acceptance: Anti-Bullying Awareness," will be held at Romita Auditorium from 7 to 9 p.m. It will also feature Susan Conte, Ph.D., CSW, Associate Professor of Guidance and Counseling in the Graduate School; Dorothy Larkin, Ph.D., RN, Associate Professor in the School of Nursing; and Elizabeth Spadaccini, MS, LMSW, Assistant Dean for Support Services.

Conte will address the effects of bullying on mental health, while Larkin with speak on conflict resolution and peer mediation.

Monte launched her Anti-Bullying Through Leadership campaign in 2011, and advocates for the importance of providing resources and tools, as well as community commitment, to ending bullying. Monte has experienced bullying firsthand, and grew up with two siblings with disabilities who were targets of peer torment.

The event is sponsored by the departments of Social Work and Communication Arts in the School of Arts & Sciences; the Department of Education in the Graduate School; and Student Services.
