Art Studio Requirements
The B.A. Degree in Studio Art
The Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio Art requires 90 credits in Liberal Studies and 30 credits in Professional Studies, and studio electives.

Required Courses
Included in the 90 credits in Liberal Studies are the following required courses:

I. Art Seminar (6 credits)
ART 390 Junior Art Seminar (1.5 cr. each semester)
ART 490 Senior Art Seminar (1.5 cr. each semester)
B.A. Studio Art majors must pass seminars with a minimum grade of C-.
Transfers into the B.A. Studio Art program and B.A. Studio Art majors are exempt
from the four-semester Art Colloquia requirement (ART 190 and ART 290).

II. Art History (9 credits)
ARH 100 Survey of Western Art (3 cr.)
One of the following (3 cr.):
ARH 110 Survey of Indian/Islamic
ARH 120 Survey of Eastern Art
ARH 130 Survey of African Art
One of the following (3 cr.):
ARH 370 Twentieth Century Art in Europe
ARH 375 Art Since 1945

Professional Studies

Included in the 30 credits in Professional Studies are the following courses:

I. Professional Studio (Art Foundations) (21 credits)
ART 103Z Design Foundation I (3 cr.)
ART 104Z Design Foundation II (3 cr.)
ART 105Z Design Foundation III (3 cr.)
ART 110Z Fundamentals of Drawing (3 cr.)
ART 111Z Figure Drawing (3 cr.)

II. Studio Electives (9 credits)
The B.A. in Studio Art requires an additional 9 credits in Studio electives.

III. Senior Project and Exhibition (3 credits)
In her senior year, the candidate for a B.A. in Studio Art enrolls in ART 497Z Senior Project (1.5 credits each semester) and participates in a group exhibition of a retrospective nature. The B.A. degree in Studio Art does not require a senior thesis paper, nor an internship.


The B.F.A. Degree in Studio Art
The Bachelor of Fine Arts degree requires 60 credits in Liberal Studies and 60 credits in
Professional Studies and studio electives.

Required Courses

Included in the 60 credits of Liberal Studies are the following required courses:

I. Art Colloquia and Seminar (12 credits)
ART 190 Freshman Art Colloquium (1.5 cr. each semester)
ART 290 Sophomore Art Colloquium (1.5 cr. each semester)
ART 390 Junior Art Seminar (1.5 cr. each semester)
ART 490 Senior Art Seminar (1.5 cr. each semester)
B.F.A. Studio Art majors must pass colloquia and seminars with a minimum grade of C-.

II. Art History (12 credits)

II. Studio Electives (33 credits)
The B.F.A in Studio Art requires an additional 33 credits in studio electives. A major may choose to concentrate her studies within Drawing and Painting, Computer Graphics and Design, Printmaking, Photography, or Sculpture or combine courses in any of these areas to create a personalized studio concentration.

III. Senior Thesis, Internship, Senior Project, and Exhibition (6-9 credits)
All B.F.A. candidates must register for ART 497Z Senior Project in their senior year. A candidate for the B.F.A. degree participates in a group exhibit that demonstrates a proficiencywith new work based on a theme or specialization in conjunction with a grouptheme. A senior who has demonstrated outstanding competency may be chosen by the Art Department faculty to present a solo exhibition. B.F.A. candidates may elect to enroll in ART 494 Senior Research (3 cr.) and complete a senior thesis paper.
All B.F.A. majors require an internship experience and must register for ART 495Z Internship in either their junior or senior year.

Minor in Studio Art (18 credits)
To minor in Studio Art, a student must complete the following requirements:
15 credits in studio-based courses in Studio Art, Communication Arts, and/or Art
for non-majors
3 credits in Art History
