Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Courses
Sudden cardiac arrest is a leading cause of death in the United States.  The Center for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that in the U.S. approximately 330,000 people die annually from coronary heart disease.  High survival rates depend on the community trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and on well organized public access defibrillation programs.  Our Health Services staff offers different programs of cardiopulmonary resuscitation instruction to reach various members of the CNR Community.

  • Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (Initial Certification and Recertification Courses) -- This class covers adult and pediatric cardiopulmonary resuscitation, including two rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation and use of bag mask/barrier device, foreign body airway obstruction, and automated external defibrillator use.  Also includes supplemental information on stroke, cardiac arrest, and special resuscitation situations.  This class is appropriate for healthcare providers and student nurses.  To register, download the registration form, and submit the completed form with payment to the Health Services Office.
  • Heart Saver Automated External Defibrillator -- This class covers adult and child cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillator use, relief of choking in adults and children, and use of barrier devices.  This class is appropriate for anyone who might need to respond to a cardiac emergency for job requirements with credentialed training.
  • Family and Friends Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation -- This class covers cardiopulmonary resuscitation and response to choking for adults and children.  This class is appropriate for family, friends, and the general public who would like to learn cardiopulmonary resuscitation but do not require a credential.

All instructors are certified trainers by the American Heart Association.
