PRE-MEDICINE
The Pre-Medicine Program fulfills the requirements of a major course
of study while preparing students for entrance into medical, dental,
or veterinary school.
Students applying to medical school should present a strong foundation
in the natural sciences, as well as a liberal education in the social
sciences and humanities. A science major is strongly recommended
because a minimum number of science courses which must be completed:
- Biology (one year)
- Chemical Principles (one year)
- Organic Chemistry (one year)
- Mathematics (one year)
- Physics (one year)
In addition, the following courses are strongly recommended:
- Psychology
- Analytical and/or Physical Chemistry
- Calculus
- Genetics
- Developmental Biology
- Bio-organic and Physiological Chemistry or Molecular Biology
Upon entering the Pre-Medicine
Program, you will meet with the Chairperson of the Pre-Health Committee
for advisement on the course requirements for entrance into medical
school. Each semester, you will meet with the Pre-Health
Chairperson and/or other members of the Committee for program assessment. The
Committee will also interview you in the spring of your junior year
to prepare a Committee letter of recommendation. During
the spring semester of your junior year, you will take the Medical
College Admission Test (MCAT), VeterinaryAptitude Test (VAT), or
the Dental Aptitude Test (DAT). Applications are submitted
to medical, veterinary or dental schools during the fall of your
senior year.
